How Does a KAP IFS-Infused EMDR Retreat Work?
Healing through a Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) EMDR + Internal Family Systems (IFS) Retreat is a carefully structured process designed to help you break through emotional barriers, reprocess trauma, and integrate lasting healing in a safe and faith-centered environment.

Step 1: Initial 30-Minute Zoom Consultation

Before beginning the process, we start with a 30-minute Zoom consultation to:

  • Learn more about your goals and what’s bringing you to this work
  • Answer any initial questions you may have
  • Ensure this retreat is the right fit for you emotionally, spiritually, and logistically

This call is a no-pressure opportunity to connect and discern the next step together.

Step 2: Medical Evaluation with Journey Clinical

Before your retreat, you will complete a medical evaluation with Journey Clinical’s licensed medical team. This virtual consultation will assess your medical history, current mental health concerns, and eligibility for KAP. If approved, Journey Clinical will create a personalized treatment plan and prescribe sublingual ketamine lozenges for your retreat. Your ketamine prescription will be sent directly to you, ensuring everything is in place before your retreat begins.

This step ensures that KAP is a safe and appropriate treatment option for you.

Step 3: The KAP IFS-Infused EMDR Retreat Experience

Your three-day retreat is structured to allow for deep healing while ensuring plenty of time for reflection, rest, and renewal.

Day 1 – Preparation & Grounding

  • Meet with your therapist to establish trust and review your goals.
  • Engage in IFS therapy to explore your inner world and the different parts of yourself.
  • Discuss ketamine dosing and IFS-infused EMDR processing, ensuring you feel informed and ready.
  • Spend time in guided reflection, journaling, prayer, and relaxation.

This first day lays the groundwork for a safe, supported healing experience.

Day 2 – Ketamine Session & IFS-Infused EMDR Processing

  • Begin with prayer or guided meditation (if desired).
  • Self-administer your ketamine lozenge in a comfortable, supportive environment.
  • While under ketamine, you may feel a sense of expanded awareness or detachment, which allows for deep emotional exploration.
  • After the effects wear off, we will begin IFS-infused EMDR therapy to reprocess traumatic memories and integrate insights gained from the ketamine session.
  • Reflect through journaling, time in nature, or quiet contemplation.

This day is the heart of the retreat, where profound breakthroughs and emotional shifts often take place.

Day 3 – Integration & Restoration

  • IFS therapy is used to process and integrate what surfaced during the ketamine and IFS-infused EMDR sessions.
  • Learn practical tools to maintain emotional and spiritual healing in daily life.
  • Close with a faith-centered reflection, solidifying insights and next steps for moving forward.

Integration is a critical part of the healing process, ensuring that the transformation you experience is lasting and meaningful.

Step 4: Post-Retreat Integration

Healing doesn’t stop when the retreat ends. Within 1–3 days after your retreat, we will meet for a 3-hour Zoom-based integration session to:

  • Review emotions, memories, or insights that surfaced during the retreat
  • Discuss how to apply what you’ve learned to your everyday life
  • Strengthen new neural pathways to support lasting healing

Journey Clinical’s medical team will also continue to monitor your progress and adjust your treatment plan as needed.

What Happens During a Ketamine Session?

A KAP session lasts about three hours, including preparation, dosing, and post-experience reflection.

During the Ketamine Experience:

  • The effects of ketamine typically last 45 minutes to an hour
  • Many people describe a deep sense of relaxation, spiritual connection, or expanded awareness
  • You may feel as though you are viewing your life from a new perspective, gaining insight into emotional patterns and past trauma
  • You will be lying comfortably with eyeshades and calming music, allowing your mind to drift into a reflective state

After the Ketamine Session:

  • We will spend time processing what came up during the experience
  • Insights from ketamine often continue to unfold in the days and weeks that follow
  • IFS and IFS-infused EMDR therapies will be used to help make sense of the experience and integrate healing into daily life

This structured approach ensures that ketamine is used intentionally, safely, and effectively.
